The Power of Vulnerability | Brene Brown

This power of vulnerability video was originally recorded at a TEDx conference in 2010. In this video Brene discusses how her research on shame has led her to understanding the importance of vulnerability. She outlines the importance of letting go of perfection and striving towards human connection.  This video has been seen by over 40 million people, for good reason. We are all striving towards that connection, we just need to be vulnerable and honest with each other about it.

“People who have a strong sense of love and belonging believe they’re worthy of love and belonging. The one thing that keeps us out of connection is our fear that we’re not worthy of connection.”

— Brené Brown

“We live in a vulnerable world, and one of the ways we deal with it is we numb vulnerability. Problem is, you cannot selectively numb emotion. You can’t say here’s the bad stuff. Here’s vulnerability, here’s grief, here’s shame, here’s fear, here’s disappointment. I don’t want to feel these. I’m going to have a couple of beers and a banana nut muffin. I don’t want to feel these…It becomes a dangerous cycle.”

— Brené Brown

Hi there! I'm an actor, producer, and writer who is devoted to storytelling and mental health awareness. After struggling through my own mental health, I found that non-traditional resources, like the ones we explore on More Than You See, helped me immensely get through my dark times. Thus, this website and podcast were born! I look forward to helping you gain agency over your mental health journey as you build your own toolkit of resources, tips, and ideas. Because you never know what might help pull you out of the darkness, and we are all More Than You See.
